Sponsored by Pasma, Chandra, Bell, Jessica, Glover, Chris, Vaugeois, Lise · Second Reading Vote
- Requires care home landlords to itemize charges for care services and meals separately in agreements
- Charges for care services and meals must match the landlord's information package and be the same for every tenant
- Landlords must let tenants choose individual services from a package instead of paying for a bundle
- Allows tenants and landlords to sign separate written agreements for extra care services or meals, which tenants can reduce or cancel with 10 days notice
- Bans increasing care service or meal charges more than once every 12 months and caps yearly increases at the rent guideline percentage
- Voids any charge increase that breaks these rules, with limited regulated exceptions capped at 3 per cent over three years
- Requires retirement home operators closing down to tell residents they keep their tenant rights and that closure notice is not a termination notice
