- Requires a 1-to-1 ratio for critical care patients on ventilators
- Requires a 2-to-1 ratio for critical care patients not on ventilators and highly dependent mental health patients
- Requires a 3-to-1 ratio for specialized care patients
- Requires a 4-to-1 ratio for inpatient and palliative care patients
- Requires a 5-to-1 ratio for rehabilitative care, except 7-to-1 on night shifts
- Lets regulations set the required mix of nurse practitioners, registered nurses and practical nurses
