Building Billy Bishop Airport Act, 2026
Sponsored by Sarkaria, Hon. Prabmeet Singh · Royal Assent received. Statutes of Ontario 2026, chapter 9
- Lets the Minister of Transportation take specific City of Toronto lands near Billy Bishop Airport and vest them in the Crown
- Buildings, structures, fixtures and improvements owned by the City on that land also transfer to the Crown automatically
- Bans the City from selling, encumbering or disposing of these lands or assets, making any such deals void
- Requires the Crown to pay the City compensation based on market value from official appraisal reports
- Sends compensation disputes to binding arbitration instead of the courts
- Replaces the City with the Crown as a party to the 1983 Tripartite Agreement on airport operations
- Blocks most lawsuits against the Crown over this Act and states the changes are not legal expropriation
